
Developed in the 1900s, exposed aggregate surfacing has a "pebble-like" appearance. It is actually made by blasting the concrete skin of poured concrete, exposing (hence the name) the aggregate below.
Aggregate is in all concrete mixes, but for this application, aggregate can be seeded into the mix during installation. For many years, this was one of the most common ways concrete was decorated. Not only can you use this style on driveways, patios, and sidewalks, it can also be used on vertical applications as well.

Color and Texture Options
Exposed Aggregate comes in a variety of styles and colors:
- Colors: This can range from pink to brown to gray, depending on the color material used.
- Size: The individual granules in aggregate can be both large (2 inch) and small (3/8 inch).
- Material: In addition to rock based aggregate, mineral, glass, and seashells can be used.
